How Much CBD Should I Take For Sleep?

Key Points

CBD for sleep remains one of the most common reasons in the UK for users to dose with CBD. Along with CBD for anxiety and chronic pain most consumers report using CBD just before bed to help them get a restful night’s sleep and to help reduce feelings of anxiety.

CBD is often combined with other compounds such as htp-5 to help give consumers the best night’s sleep possible. Both CBD and 5-htp are said to aid the body in regulating mood and 5-htp in particular is a precursor to serotonin production so no surprises that it finds its way into many people’s wellness routines.

CBD dosages for sleep will differ with each individual. The daily recommended limit is around 70mg in the UK but is as high as 200mg in other areas. With CBD dosages the typical recommendation is to start small and work your way up to higher dosages to see how your body adapts. This is particularly fruitful for those who are just starting out on their CBD journey to test out how their body reacts to different dosage amounts of CBD.

What CBD product is best for sleep?

CBD nowadays comes in many different forms. From CBD oils, to gummies, vapes, coffee and drinks there really is no end to the various forms CBD can be consumed. We love this fact but it can be difficult for users to know what is best, and what is best for sleep specifically.

The main consideration when looking to take CBD for sleep, is the bioavailability of the CBD. This will differ hugely depending on how it is taken up by the body and how quickly it is absorbed. Studies show that some of the fastest ways to absorb CBD can be through vaping but this is of course not something that everyone is keen to do. That is why for the vast majority, consumers prefer to take CBD oils for sleep just before bedtime. By taking the oils under the tongue for 30 seconds or more before bed we get faster absorption into the bloodstream and avoid waiting or the CBD to be digested via the intestines and stomach. This is also why it is a preferred way of taking CBD to gummies, as the speed in which it takes effect is superior.

What CBD oils are best for sleep?

This is a question which will depend very much on the user. We find just as many of our customers opting for a cbd isolate based oil as we do for those looking at full spectrum or even broad spectrum oils. It is very much a question that is best tested by each person to find which CBD oils work best for them. The common advantage to CBD full spectrum oils are in regards to the well known combination of CBD with other cannabinoids called the entourage effect. The combination of other cannabinoids with CBD are said to interact with one another to have a more profound impact. However on the flip side, we find many customers who want the purest form of CBD with no interruptions and for these users a CBD isolate remains their best bet.

How much CBD oil should I take?

So this brings us full circle to the heading of the blog post. Well to be honest, ultimately it depends. If you are a new user, we would typically suggest trying a CBD isolate oil and going for a small dosage in the region of 10mgs. You can then build this up over the following days and weeks to test your tolerance and see how your body reacts up to a limit of 70mg. We always remind people that you can dose far higher than this, and there are studies that have supported it’s safety profile as high as 1500mg per day, but we would certainly not suggest anyone to do that!

For a more seasoned CBD user, we might suggest trying a broad spectrum of full spectrum CBD oil but would still look to start small with a dosage in the 10-25mg category. This allows any user to build up overtime and to really test how the CBD interacts with your body and if it really aids your sleep.
